How to to upgrade your bathroom on a budget

Updated: Jul 15, 2021

Updating your bathroom can be very costly, but there are tricks of the trade that can help bring down those costs and still give you a great looking space. A few minor changes can creates a big impact and you can go from drab to glam. Updating your vanity lights can help transform and define your bathroom space and help create a cohesive feel once you know what style you are trying to achieve. That is the first thing you want to do is some research on the style and look you want to have once you figure that out then you are on your way to creating a beautiful space, which brings me to the next item...

Plumbing fixtures and cabinet pulls. You do not want to have an outdated bathroom by leaving your 70's brass fixtures, now don't get me wrong, I love a great looking brass fixture. Style and color make a big difference in how to pull pieces together, if you already have great fixtures that you love, you are one step ahead of the game. If you are getting new lighting having the right plumbing fixtures and cabinet pulls can help turn your mediocre bathroom into a space you actually want to be in, so making sure your lighting, plumbing fixtures and cabinet pulls have a cohesive look will make a big impact. You also want to consider the look you have through the rest of your home when choosing these items as well. Otherwise if you have mid century lights with farmhouse fixtures, but the rest of your house is traditional, then you may need to bring yourself back to square one. It is completely ok to mix styles, but there is a right and wrong way to do so.... well I will get into this on another post because that is a whole other topic.

Now where were we..... ahh yes, lastly, putting in those finishing touches such as towels and decor and possibly a new mirror. Now these finishing items will help tie in the look you are trying to achieve. Less is more, you don't want to add to many items to make it cluttered, but just a few things to tie in your style. Such as adding a small tray with your soap, some greenery and a candle is all you would need to warm up the space. Adding the right picture on the wall above the bathtub, maybe a wooden ladder to hold your towels instead of the traditional towel bar. There are so many things you can do to make your space unique and inviting.

So if you are on a budget and can't afford a whole gut job, by doing these few things can help transform your out of date bathroom, into a space you can relax in and enjoy. You can find some great deals to keep yourself on track, it might take up quite a bit of time searching to find these perfect pieces for you at just the right price, but in the end it will be all worth it!
